Welcome
Hi there!
Welcome, and thanks for being here.
I’m Matt, a lifelong competitve runner based on the Gold Coast, Australia. I spent my early years competing nationally and internationally in the 800m and 1500m, before moving up to the half marathon and marathon – distances I still love racing today.
In addition to my own training & racing, my passion now lies in coaching.
Over the past decade I’ve worked with hundreds of runners – first-timers, weekend warriors, and serious competitors – helping them train smarter, stay consistent, and achieve goals they thought were out of reach. Whether that’s finishing your first marathon, breaking a PB, or chasing a big performance milestone, I’m all in on the process with you.
Through Sweat Elite, which I founded in 2016, I’ve also had the chance to learn directly from some of the best athletes and coaches in the world. I bring those lessons into my coaching philosophy and programming with clients.
If you’re thinking about coaching, I’d love to hear your story and what you’re aiming for.
Running Bio
Matt began his career as a middle distance athlete, competing at a national level from 2004 to 2014. During that time he ranked top five in Australia on three occasions over 800m and competed internationally across Europe and the United States. Those years were spent immersed in high performance environments, learning directly from world class athletes and coaches in Australia, Europe and the US.
In 2017 he shifted his focus to the marathon. Starting with a 2:59 debut, he has steadily progressed toward the elite end of the event, recording a 2:18 at the Indianapolis Marathon in 2024 and now pursuing a sub 2:15 performance. He has raced 26 marathons across four continents, gaining first-hand experience of different courses, climates and championship style racing.
Matt has spent time with some of the most respected minds in distance running, including Renata Canova, Jack Daniels and Patrick Sang. He has trained and studied alongside athletes in Kenya, Ethiopia, Japan, Europe and the United States, observing how the world’s fastest runners prepare, recover and compete.
His coaching blends middle distance precision with marathon durability. It is built on lived experience, global exposure and a deep understanding of how to progress athletes from personal best ambitions to high performance outcomes.
